Zynga has launched an expansive new feature in FishVille in the form of Fish Mastery. You’ll need to be at least level 7 to unlock this new feature, but once you are, you’ll find that you’ll be able to master, to start, six different fish families via a simple cyclic process of purchasing the fish, selling them for points – rinse and repeat.
To explain it further, you’ll find the new feature in a small tab placed at the right-hand side of your tank. Clicking on it will show you a brief tutorial of the feature (also accessed at any time by clicking on “Help” in the top left corner of the pop-up window), which lets you know that if you sell your fish at Age 1, you’ll receive the most amount of Mastery Points possible.
Not only will you gain mastery points when you sell your fish, but you’ll also earn a small amount for purchasing them in the first place.
And so the feature goes: you’ll raise one particular kind of fish (the game suggests starting with the Butterflyfish Family, most specifically the Longnose Butterfly) ad nauseum until you unlock the next fish in the family. You’ll then raise that new fish until you unlock the third, and so on, until you have access to all four fish in the family.
As you level up, you’ll gain access to more families and their own mastery tiers, including Clownfish, Gobies, and Boxfish, which are all currently available to users based on their level (for instance, only users level 20 and above can try to master the Boxfish family). Two additional families, the Damselfish and the Hamlets are listed as “coming soon.”
While not all fish in the game fall into a mastery tier, this new feature does offer you some added challenge, especially great for higher level players that have run out of things to do in the game. What do you think of the fish mastery feature? Will you attempt to master fish families, or will you continue to go about your business as usual?
