Square Enix has announced the official release date for Final Fantasy XIV Online – the game will be launched and ready for PC’s everywhere on September 30, 2010. In anticipation of the game’s release, Square Enix will launch beta testing for the MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) this month.
In addition to announcing the release date, we also now have more information regarding both the standard edition of the game, and the special Collector’s Edition. While the monthly subscription price rests at $12.99 for 30 days, the initial investment cost is only $49.99 for the standard edition, while the Collector’s Edition costs $74.99.
For that extra $25, you’ll receive an exclusive in-game item, the Onion Helm (accelerates character recovery after falling in battle), along with access to play the game 8 days before the standard launch date (depending on server capacity at the time). The Collector’s Edition also comes with 30 days of free gameplay, a numbered and stamped Right of Passage certificate, a DVD with “making of” featurettes for the game, an art book of sorts which comes in the form of a “Travel Journal,” and a Final Fantasy XIV branded Security Token for use with your regular password.
As far as the standard edition is concerned, those consumers will also receive 30 days of free gameplay and a free in-game item – the Garlond Goggles, which increases the speed of your skill progression.
As we said before, beta testing will begin later this month. For more information about how you can become a tester (North American users only), head over to the game’s official website.
