Facebook just released an update on its whopping developer service statistics. Facebook Connect now reaches 60 million people around the Web on 80,000 different sites. (Up significantly just a few months ago, when Facebook Connect’s spread was a mere 15,000 websites.)
“We don’t aspire to be only a web site,” said Ethan Beard, director of the Facebook Developer Network. “We aspire to be a technology that allows people to connect people with the things they care about.” Beard also noted Facebook’s rapid international growth — in just two years, the social network has seen a flip-flop in territorial use – 70 percent of users now come from abroad, whereas two years ago 70 percent were from the US.
Facebook Connect now extends to websites, desktop applications, iPhones, mobile devices and gaming consoles. The World Wide Web is its oyster, and Facebook is taking every opportunity to reel in new users. 60 million people using Facebook Connect is certainly a lot, but can the network ever intend to reach all 300 million monthly Facebookers? If the numbers are true, you can bet they’ll try: Connected users create 15-60% more content than non-Connected.
