EA Stops Fish from Playing, SimCity Social Closing June 14

Casual, Industry, Pet Society, Social

Looks like I won’t be playing SimCity Social for the writing, or for any other reason, anymore. Yesterday, EA made the sad announcement that it was closing down its Playfish line of Facebook games, including SimCity Social, The Sims Social, Pet Society, and others. Those three are scheduled to go offline on June 14.

In an announcement offered to playersSimCity Social’s community manager posted:

We had to make the difficult decision to close down SimCity Social so we can reallocate development resources to other titles that we hope you’ll have just as much fun playing. We hope you have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of the games and we thank you for everything you’ve added to the community.

Existing players will be undoubtedly “transitioned” to new social titles — the post also mentions “we’ll announce a special offer to thank you for playing our game.”

It’s always sad to see a game close, regardless of how you feel about the game itself. We hope the good folks at Playfish land on their feet (once they evolve to a species that can walk on land).
