At the end of July, we brought you the news that Disney had acquired social game developer Playdom for a sum of over $560 million. Since then, we’ve learned that Playdom will be developing a Marvel themed game (Marvel also being purchased by Disney last year), but little else has been heard from the Disney camp, in terms of Playdom’s games, since.
That all has changed now, however, as the first real showings of Disney’s take-over have hit one of Playdom’s Facebook games, that being Social City. This is shown front and center upon logging into the game, as a Social City avatar wearing a Minnie Mouse hat makes an appearance and alerts users that Disney wants to open up a theme park in your city (or one of your outlying districts).
This can be done via a new in-game raffle. The raffle contains eight Disney Theme Park attractions, and works much like other raffles that have appeared in the game in the past. The eight items are the Matterhorn Bobsleds, Haunted Mansion, the It’s A Small World attraction, Big Thunder Mountain, the iconic statue of Walt Disney holding Mickey Mouse’s hand, Space Mountain, and the Mad Tea Party. If you can “luck” your way into receiving all eight items, you’ll be rewarded with Cinderella’s Castle at the end.
Each spin of the wheel costs 10 City Bucks. As of now, it appears as though there is a visual glitch in the system, that says that each subsequent spin only costs 1 City Buck, but they in fact all cost 10.
Each item comes with a fairly hefty amount of Happiness Points. As examples, the Matterhorn Bobsleds offer 20,000 Happiness Points to your town, while the Mad Tea Party gives off 10,000. The final item, Cinderella’s Castle, comes complete with animated fireworks launching above the building, and a 30,000 Happiness Point bonus.
It will require a little bit of luck, and a lot of City Bucks to make it happen, but if you’d like to try and complete your very own Disney theme park in the game, make sure to head over to Social City on Facebook.
