Facebook, Social, Videos

Come on down! You’re the next contestant on the Price is Right, that is, if you wish to play the game on Facebook. Ludia has brought the iconic television game show to Facebook, in an exciting package pitting you against other real-world players, all in an effort to earn the most (virtual) money and prizes as possible.

The gameplay is simple – you’ll need to pay 2 virtual coins to enter into each show, and you’ll start the app off with 10 coins (you earn more coins by playing the game). Once the game begins, you’ll play through six rounds of bidding, as seen in the show proper. There are 12 people in each show, and you can play the game with your friends, if they happen to be online at the same time.

Each of the five rounds will see real life clips from the show, along with the accompanying announcer track, playing as you are shown the next item that is up for bid. You’ll then have a limited amount of time to place your bid. The top four bids, without going over, are added to Contestants Row in the next round, and they receive bonus cash for earning a seat there.

Once on Contestants Row, the same process occurs, with you bidding on the next item. If you happen to place the best bid, without going over in your round, you have the chance of entering into a pricing game, like the Clock Game or Plinko, as just two examples. At the end of each round, the top four bids are added to Contestants Row. If you were already there, you can stay, but if your performance was lacking in that round, you can and will be replaced by the player who guessed more accurately in the previous round.

At the end of the five rounds, the top two players (in terms of bonus cash accumulated) will enter into the Showcase Showdown, where they’ll have the chance of bidding on large packages of prizes, and, just like in the show, the player with the closest bid without going over will win the whole shabang.

The more money you earn in each complete game, the higher you level is in the overall app. In addition, if friends happen to be playing the app with you, you’ll earn bonus cash at the end of each game. This cash is important in the real-world giveaway system that is placed along the bottom of the gameplay area. Your team of friends has an accumulated score, just like that of Bejeweled Blitz, as an example. If you can fill the meter with your accumulated cash winnings before the week is out (the contest resets every week), you’ll be entered for a chance to win the prize in question. At the time of this writing, the prize is a trip for two to LA and V.I.P. tickets to a taping of the Price is Right television show.

If you’d like to take part in the classic game show from the comfort of your own home, be sure to head over to the game’s page on Facebook to get started. As the game is a bit difficult to explain in words, be sure to check out our Frisky Hands-On video below to see a full game from beginning to end.

It is the Showcase (not the showcase showdown) that is at the end of the show. The showcase-showdown is the big wheel.
