After being on the market in one form or another for the past ten years, PopCap is celebrating the launch of Bejeweled by releasing a staggering sales figure for a casual game – over 50 million units sold, across countless platforms and franchise releases.
PopCap looks to keep Bejeweled alive and well in the hearts of casual gamers for the next ten years and beyond by offering, according to Games.com, a “new way” to play Bejeweled Blitz, the incredibly popular Facebook and iPhone application that breaks the game into one-minute pieces.
In March, the company will also hold a “Show Your Bejeweled Love” contest, where users must profess their love for the franchise via either audio or video submissions. Prizes have not been announced as of this writing, but another contest has. This one comes in the form of a “community-wide competition” in Bejeweled Blitz, which is set to reward the very best players of the one-minute version of the game.
