Bejeweled Blitz, the maddeningly fast-paced Facebook version of PopCap’s quintessential match-three game, has been named “Best Facebook Game” in IGN’s Best of 2009 awards. Citing the game’s bite-sized time limit and the competition engendered by its weekly leaderboards, IGN’s praise for the game includes a perfectly eloquent three-word highlight: “Addictive as hell.”
One has to admit, there’s something special about a game which lasts only sixty seconds, yet when you look up from your “quick break” to play it, it’s forty minutes later. My personal favorite moment is posting a lovely score after a great run, only to come back a few hours later and receive notifications that my entire friends list has done far better than I have. I clearly need another “quick break” to practice.
Bejeweled Blitz edged out fellow Facebook apps Crazy Planets and Crawlian, from Playfish and Square Enix, respectively, for the award.
