Casual

Last week, What They Play broke news of Nexon’s latest online game PopTag!, a water balloon battle game.

The creators of the Maple Story MMO, Nexon knows how to create games that people want to play, and the company hopes that PopTag!’s similarities to games like Bomberman will endear it with longtime gamers and casual beginners alike.

Each of the game’s levels begins with the strategic placement of water balloons throughout the battlefield, with each balloon popping a few seconds after it has been placed, thereby destroying nearby obstacles and opponents alike.

Power-ups appear during levels, giving players added speed or stronger balloons, but the overall goal of defeating all of your enemies remains the same despite the tweaks.

As it stands now, the game does contain a microtransaction system for the sale of visual and performance upgrades for your character, but the basic gameplay itself is free to play (it’s a standard setup that Nexon has employed in most of its games, and it seems to work quite well). If you’d like to demo the game, you can head over to the game’s website, while those that already know that PopTag! is right up there alley can download the client and let the balloons fly.
