Do you remember when Pong came out? If you do, can you use your senior’s discount to buy me movie tickets? Okay, maybe you’re not quite that old yet, but seeing as Pong is celebrating its 40th anniversary, you’re definitely getting up there. Atari, a TriplePoint client who is also pushing 40, is celebrating the classic console creation’s birthday by giving it a makeover, and urging you to be the one who designs its new look. They’ll pay you a hundred grand if you do a good job — plus a publishing deal.

You heard right. Re-invent Pong, win $100,000, and get your game published, marketed, and supported by one of the oldest pillars in gaming. It’s called the Pong Indie Developer Challenge, and it just opened.

From the press release:

In celebration of Atari’s andPong’s 40th anniversary, the company today announced the official start of its Pong® Indie Developer Challenge, calling on entrants to reimagine the classic game for a chance to win up to $100,000 and see their vision go from concept to market. Beginning February 28, 2012, developers can submit their original take on Pong® for iPhone®, iPad® and iPod® touch devices, with finalists launching their games on the App Store later this year under the Atari brand. Winning entries will also receive a long-term publishing agreement with Atari that includes development, creative resources and full marketing support. Submissions are now being accepted until March 31, 2012, 11:59pm ET, at:

And all you have to do is come up with a fresh take on one of the oldest and simplest video game concepts known to man. You’re cool with reinventing the wheel, right? No problem.
