I love my iPhone, and all of the things that it can do for me while I’m out and about. I do not love the fact that unless I’m near a power outlet of some kind, it can only do those things for an hour or two. So, Pocket Gamer’s suggestion, based on patent research, that Apple may be developing an iPhone with solar charging capabilities, makes me very happy. Yes, please.
Pocket Gamer reports that while a basic solar panel was patented back in 2008, a newly filed patent focuses on a way to power the device through both solar and battery sources, and would allow the solar cells to adapt to different light conditions to keep the phone running.
If GPS gaming is going to really take off on the iPhone, this is a must. I would love to wander around great outdoor locations in Traveler’s Quest, but I know I can’t wander too far from my car in case my battery runs low.
