Angry Bird players are set for a special bonus this Super Bowl Sunday. The iPhone game’s upcoming 30-second commercial is all the buzz today – apparently, it will feature an embedded code to unlock a secret new level. According to AdAge, “the spot will be the first Super Bowl ad that requires viewers to pause the spot and watch frame-by-frame to capture an embedded code.” It will air in the 4th quarter of Sunday’s big game on Fox.
Besides a secret new level (which I fully acknowledge will keep me busy during any remaining pigskin action), Angry Bird players will also be entered into a “Rio” sweepstakes upon completing said level. Is this fantasy football? Maybe not, but the sweepstakes offers a grand prize trip to Rio de Janiero, Brazil for the upcoming “Rio” animated movie premiere. Rovio and 20th Century Fox have coincidentally slated the premiere to take place on the same day as Angry Birds Rio launches on the iPhone App Store – March 22.
If you’re under a rock this Sunday, don’t own a television or just don’t dig football, the Angry Birds Rio ad will be posted on YouTube after the Super Bowl airs. Just make sure you have the original Angry Birds* app in the meantime. (*Frisky Mongoose is not responsible for any productivity lost as a result of this download link; that’s all on you.)
So maybe Packers and Steelers fans can agree on something – win or lose, we all still get a pretty nifty consolation prize this year.
