Android, Mobile

Do you Yelp? For those who don’t, let me explain: Yelp is a social review website that allows users to review places they have visited such as restaurants, museums, hotels, and stores. The site is not limited to these categories however, as just about anything with an address can be reviewed.

Now, wouldn’t it be helpful to have these reviews on the go? Well, the developers of the official Yelp Android app have your back as this app carries all of the information about the places around you making it easy to see which place would be best to grab a bite to eat at or which hotel has the fewest cockroaches.

If you’re planning on using the app, the number one thing I can recommend you do is grab a free account on the Yelp site. With an account, you can review places on your phone, add bookmarks to check out places later and add photos. Not only that, there are sharing options making it easy to share a venue with friends over SMS, Twitter or Facebook.

One of the coolest aspects of the Yelp app is the use of the phone’s GPS. Immediately after starting the app, it will scan for your location and show you the closest places to you and their star ratings. When you touch a venue, you can read the reviews as well as receive contact and address information for the place.

Whether you’re looking to share experiences, checking how that new place in town is, or visiting an unfamiliar city, Yelp has you covered. Their free Android app is top notch in this category and highly recommended.

Yelp is currently available on the Android Market.
