AndroidAppADay: Opera Mini 5 Browser

Android, Mobile

Browsing has become more important than ever on today’s mobile devices and one of the things that makes Android awesome is that it allows for alternative browsers to be installed. Opera Mini 5 is currently on Android and appears to be a huge step up from the last iteration in speed, interface and overall design.

The most shocking thing about Opera Mini 5 is just how freaking fast it is. Even on full featured, non-mobile sites, the browser loads them up in seconds even over 3G. Whatever magic tricks the fine people at Opera are using make it the fastest browser I’ve used on Android.

The only downside about the Opera browser is that it does not allow for multitouch pinch-to-zoom which some people need in their browsers. I know some people who would call this a deal breaker but it’s a minor blemish if you ask me.

Opera Mini 5 Browser is currently available on the Android Market.
