Acquisition Fever!

acquisitionPlaydom acquired two new social game companies last week – Facebook  developer Green Patch, and iPhone developer Trippert Labs.

Likely Playdom is arming itself to compete more effectively with social game behemoths like Zynga and Playfish, or perhaps  they’ve caught an acquisition fever from Electronic Arts, who acquired Playfish for a cool $400 million earlier this month.

Green Patch created FarmVille’s Facebook rival, Farm Life. Not surprisingly with the recent Facebook farming phenomenon, Farm Life now has over 1 million daily active users. Also, note that Trippert Labs CEO Omar Siddiqui joined Playdom’s management team as the new VP of game production.

It will be interesting to see how much longer “copycat” games can exist in the social game space once these giants get a good grip on their audience. Monopoly anyone?
