2009: The Year of Pocket God, Over 10 Million Pygmies Tortured

Casual, iPhone

With over 1.7M units sold and a pile of awards and accolades in its back pocket, Pocket God is the most popular paid app on the iPhone. Today, TriplePoint client Bolt Creative and iPhone users worldwide have declared 2009 as The Year of Pocket God.

A sadistic deity simulator with a warped sense of humor and nearly 30 free updates under its belt, Pocket God puts players in the role of an omnipotent being who rules over a small island and its Pygmy inhabitants. Deities completely control the lives – and often, the demise – of their Pygmy charges by using an ever-growing variety of tools, monsters, and gameplay mechanics.

Developed in significantly less time than it took to build Rome – only a week! – Pocket God quickly stormed the charts holding the top spot for an entire month. With a peak of 18,000 downloads a day, the pocket-god-screenloyal community continued to grow and embrace the unique app as Bolt consistently provided free new episodes with fresh content. Fans created over 3,500 videos for YouTube, posters, plush dolls, paintings and much more.

The awards speak for themselves:

o Named by Apple as one of the “Best Selling Apps of 2009”
o WIRED readers named it one of the “Best Apps of 2009”
o Appadvice named it “Most Creative Game”
o iLounge named it one of the “Best Apps of the Year”
o G4TV’s X-Play named it one of the “Top 5 iPhone Games”

Bolt Creative is also currently hosting a fan survey requesting feedback on the app from their community. Pocket God can be purchased in the iTunes App Store here.
